Evaluation: 8) Looking back at your pitch of ideas, what do you feel you have learned in progression for the pitch to the full product?

In my pitch I had many basic ideas that I did not agree upon such as my colour scheme and target audience this was because my research was split. Throughout the process of making my magazine my ideas have constantly changed due to various reasons. Mostly my colour scheme and have had the most alterations. When doing my pitch I was choosing between pastel colours with lace or red,black and white these two colour schemes were chosen because they were popular when doing my target audience research. In the end I chose to use the pastel colours but altered them so instead of lace I used an old sweet shop theme this would connect with the issue being for summer. I thought this theme would go with the vintage summer fairs that are usually held around this time. 

I have also made slight alterations to my target audience as I not only wanted to attract the younger generation originally but I wanted to use some nostalgic feature for older readers so that they can read the magazine to see the opinions of younger people looking back at their history. The last change that I made was for my interview peice this was mostly because of communication eras so instead of writing about a vintage based company and how they work I wrote about people who sell vintage clothing and antiques and their struggles.

The process of creating this magazine allowed me to see the many processes that a magazine has to go through when it's being produced. This not only included keeping a tight schedule and sticking to self set deadlines but also included producing digital layouts with professional software. The project also allowed me to analyse the many sides of media production and how they come together to form one overall product. By doing this project I have gained understanding of the professional standard and how this should fit into selected deadlines. This included scheduling so that everything needed was produced. 

If Ii did this assignment again I would focus more on details mainly those in the layout. I wanted to accomplish a professional look but have forgot details such as the barcode on the front cover and small details that would of made my page layout more interesting. For my photos I would of edited them more as the lighting on many did not give the glossy professional look I wanted to achieve. My last thought would be to consider changing the theme of my magazine as the vintage element made it hard to research this left me with limited subjects to cover in my articles. 

Evaluation: 7) What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Strenghs

. I was able to complete basic design skills on software such as Indesign and illistrator. These products are in use in the media buisness today to produce a magazine. 

. I completed a basic layout with such features as drop shadows.

. I integrated hand drawn illustration into my magazine to create a greater appearance. This is being used by many magazines as it adds to images.its mostly used by creative magazines that display art or music and  I wanted to connect it to something new like my subject of vintage fashion.

. I use basic photoshop only to correct features like lighting and to add vintage looking filters. If I was to complete this for a magazine I would have also alter her appearance and maybe some of the little detail such as showing straps and small spots and wrinkles. This happens daily in the professional world.

. I produced a magazine with a photoshopped front cover and decent layout including a collaged last page.

.I now understand how a magazine is produced and the processes it goes through to be created. This work takes a lot of time and goes through a lot of checked before final publication.

Weaknesses

. My layout was a lower quality then what I wanted to achieve and was produced only with simple skills.

. The colours could be more intriguing as the pastels made the pages appear flat and dull.

. Photos could have more editing so that the lighting is changed so the photos are more effective.

.My knowledge of software in limited and could be furthered so the appearance of the magazine is more effective and has a colourful glossy finish.

Opportunities

. To make my magazine appear brighter. I would change the layout so it is more attractive to reader with a nicer finish, I would do this by using brighter colours and changing my layout completely.

. I also would like to further my overall knowledge of the software and this would not overall improve my images so that the lighting is correct but would also help the quality of my work.

Threats

.My knowledge at the moment is limited so to improve this I will learn and practise skills so that I am used to the software and can use it to creat effective results.

Evaluation: 5) how has your written content attempted to engage your audience?

A) What was their pose of your interview.

My interview piece titled "Too expensive" is about the vintage shopping cost and experience. I have used the piece to show how the rising costs in the vintage market have not only  affected the buyers but also the sellers. As I interviewed a small business I thought about how the how the shopping experience is making  up for the cost and help business owners explain their reasons for raising the prices on vintage clothing. My interview questions were limited and if I were to repeat this task again I would use more technical interview skills and ask a wider range of questions as mine gave me limited information. I used limited interview skills and only used a small range of open and closed questions which provided me not only with long quotes but with short quotes that can simply be imbedded into my article. 

I would like the readers of this article to understand more about vintage businesses and the struggles they face. When researching for my interview i started eras each for a different business called the 19 fourths tea rooms but at a later date I found them hard to contact so ended up doing am improvised interview when out to doing photography for my assignment. I did my initial research by looking into local village businesses. I then thought about the struggles that a vintage business must have such as locating old stock and the rising popularity and cost of anything connected vintage. This allowed me to gather a basic outline of the questions that I could ask so that I gather the correct information for my magazine article. I started my interview with short yes or no questions that have a short answer and give me a leading point into the interview where further on I asked longer open questions which allows the opinions to flow. I also took note of non verbal communication to see how relaxed the interview and how passionate the answers were. If I could improve the way I did my interview I would put more preparation into it so that all of the answers  received could be used within the article.

B) Think about your other articles too and consider their style.

All my articles had to link to the basic vintage theme of Rosie magazine, to do this I had to consider what I could write about this was mainly about vintage clothing and antiques. I also connected my critical debate by making the article a comparison of past times and today.

My first article is my feature article "living a vintage life" about buying vintage clothing. This tied into vintage fashion and also connected to my other articles about the rising expensive of vintage clothing. This article helps the younger audience that I'm trying to attract. These people want to buy vintage clothing at an affordable price. Throughout this article I have tried to use a relaxed chatty feel I all of my articles so that a younger audience feels relaxed as many do not read much. For all of my articles I have used the font times new Romen as this is easy to understand at all ages and gives a clear and simple finish.

My column pieces are all tied around the changes of vintage fashion this includes the rising prices and how vintage is different. These articles are short and easy to digest as most teens read little and do not like to read for long times. These pieces are also kept simple and are opinion based this gives the articles personality. I kept the language simple in these articles as they are easy to understand so it is faster to read this way.

My critical debate article "The perfect body" uses more complex language techniques as it is debating a serious subject matter. This article is used a reader think about their thoughts on this particular debate. The article is used to make someone consider a subject. I think this attracts the audience as they to know more so that they can make judgement.

Overall, if I was to do this project again I would improve my articles by not only changing their fonts so that there is a larger range but also by adding more detail and language skills making the magazine more intellectual.

Evaluation: 4) Research

A) Describe how you used secondary research to complete this project. 

Throughout this project I have used secondary research for inspiration this allowed me to gain information on vintage subjects and how the public care about them. This was mostly done by researching information on vintage blogs, magazine and companies. The issues these businesses were talking about are what most of my articles are based on. Articles like Too expensive relied on secondary information such as the price of vintage clothing and this also linked to living a vintage life. 

The articles that mostly relied on this research were Living a vintage life and The perfect body. These were my feature piece and my critical debate. My feature piece was about vintage clothing and the various places you can buy it such as the fairs and shops . To look this up I mostly used directories and social media which allowed me to find the companies quickly and allows me to ask them any questions I wanted to know about the company. These companies were easy to find because they are commercial businesses so their web addresses ended with . com or .org but this is not reliable if you are using research for articles such as the crical debate.

The critical debate research was mainly for statistics and quotes so that they can be used in an academic structure. My research needed to be reliable and credible. To get this research I had to use the correct websites and sources such as book or academic websites which would end in .ac . These would be reliable because they are fact  checked as they are mostly being used for education. The statistics I found needed to be sourced back to  their creator to check their credibility as they can be bias if they were used for commercial purposes. These were mostly found through google but  it will advertise most commercial websites above others as they are sometimes getting paid to do so. To find accurate sources you must make sure the site you are quoting from is not trying to sell a product or service as this can sway the sources they use. Try to avoid articles that are from know unreliable sources as most will try to explain their point using bias opinions. The best method of secondary research is through books as they would have been fact checked before being published.

B) What problems did you encounter when sourcing information for your critical debate? 

The basic problem I faced when researching for my critical debate was biased and incorrect sources. These were sources that had swayed the results of their  statistics for a commercial use this also occurred in articles from magazines as their personal opinions are being used instead of fact.This could be stopped if all research is fact checked and all original sources are found as they may have came from an academic publication or from a known reliable source. On any future projects i will check full credibility of my sources so that my articles are as reliable as they can possibly be. This will make my articles credible. 

The second problem i faced was finding research from many different media sources such as books, articles this was mainly because of my subject choice. The 1950's had little relevancy to subjects that are being debated today although this did fit with my magazine it was hard to research.  Most of the research that I used in my critical debate were not specifically about my subject instead about sociology and people attitude to body image. This did limit my article in the fact that I could not talk about my subject in great detail. If I was to do this article again i would choose a current debate instead because it would be easier to find relevant sources that prove my statements accurately. 

C) Describe the different types of primary research used to complete this project.

For my project I used two methods of primary research, for my article Too expensive i used an interview to gather shop owners opinions on the vintage market. For this method research i had organize the interview so that i recieved information that I need to create a basic outline of an article. I also used an interview to gain a teenagers perspective on body image and how it has changed over time for my critical debate . I used this method because it allowed me to use direct quotes from the source this method gathers a persons opinion and does not state it as fact. This can be harmful because if you misquote your article can become unreliable which makes people doubt your work. you must make sure that any quotes taken are sourced back to the person who said them this points out that it is a personal opinion instead of a statistic. 

I could of used a focus group to get number statistics and opinions as this provide both and has more use then an interview . It does have its faults as it can give wrong answers and be swayed by the people in the group as people are more likely to say what another has said then give their own opinion. To fix this fault would be hard but if I was to do a focus group for future projects I would use a range of people as a certain friendship group or age can make the group bias. 

Overall I think when doing primary research in the future I will take longer to organise as my interview were rushed and sometimes produced information I did not need. I might also consider doing a focus group because it would not only provide me with quote but would give me a range of opinions.
