Evaluation : 1) In what way does your product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My magazine Rosie is vintage fashion based magazine. I have done research into other magazines of this type and have only found one that is mainly for this subject matter this was Her Vintage Life.  Firstly I have looked at their layout which used pastel colours and had the look of a scrapbook with many layered item and patterns. I have tried to use this in my magazine using polaroid photo frames for most of my images I have also kept their layered affect again by giving the effect of the polaroids being stuck in a scrapbook. For my colours I used Pinterest to research what other people thought vintage was this was mainly the sweet pastels I thought this connected to old village fairs and sweet shops. This issue is summer themed so I wanted to tie in the pastel sweet shop look this can be seen in the hand drawn illistrations both on the front page and the contents pages and then throughout as the colours of the sweets in each jar relate to the colours of the page that article is on. The page layout is simple and easy to read I used basic collumns like most magazine and also stuck to a large header as this is basic for most page layouts. The fonts I choose where mainly taken from what I have seen in vintage advertisements mainly from the 1950’s this is automatically connected to the retro feel that I wanted my magazine to achieve.

For my images most of my inspiration has come from pinterest this provided me with images my pinterest is (http://www.pinterest.com/sophiekipper/vintage-magazine-inspiration/). Most of the images related to vintage where set outside mostly within forests I have done this for one half of my photos I have used a trail and a 1930’s  dress to create a vintage look. I wanted it to look as if the photo had come from past days so in editing added filters I saw this a lot in Her Vintage Life and on pinterest. For the other half of my of my photo shoot I took inspiration from black and white photo graphs of my nan in the 50s where she stood mainly at the bus stop or in the street in a contrasting black dress I recreated these photos with my model. Most of the vintage photos that I found in magazines where taken to look like modern day people in modern events but I wanted to go back in time and make the magazine appeal to those who actually want to step back in time.

The articles in my magazine mostly have a relaxed feel as this is chatty and personal. I found that in most magazine, even those that focus on different subject matter, had used this style of writing. I think it is mostly used to make the magazine seem like its talking directly to the reader this provides comfort. Overall my magazine has a unique view on vintage fashion as unlike the magazine I found called Her Vintage Life instead of being layed out like a modern take on vintage life I wanted it to look like a magazine from the past with a look on contemporary issues.
